Thank you for all that information and yes, I did spell Wurzburg without the dots but still got the correct station. I do not speak German and can only read a couple of words related to travel, so I assumed that the "English" version on DB would be kind to me. I will in future remember to add Hbf when doing my research.
Great idea about the taxi too, just in case.

Okay, now I'm not sure which answers are for me and which ones are for the hijacker. So, still a little confused.

I did select Rothenburg ob der Tauber and also Würzburg Hbf on bahn.de. It does show a 13:09 departure with only 1 stop but this appears to be the earliest with only one stop. I'm hoping to get started before then. However, it does show the travel time as only 1:29 which is pretty good time.

I checked the bus site and after going through all the tours, etc., I finally hit on what appears to be simply transportation (no lunch, no hotel) but the only departure is at 15:55. Again, a bit late.

64driver,
Perhaps the best tactic would be the taxi to Steinach and train from there. Can you tell me approximately what the taxi fare would be (for 3 people) and where we would catch a taxi?

Thanks for the replies!

It's the hijacker here!!
Gee I am sorry that I put some info on your thread, I have been researching the same thing and thought some of the suggestions would help both of us and anyone else that might be needing it.

My apologies.

I think you're doing something wrong, dherron. I checked departures for March 2 (which is a Sunday), and there're hourly departures -- even at 9:06 am -- from Rothenburg o.d.T. to Wurzburg Hbf.

Trains usually run less frequently on Sunday.

I'm not sure why you're not able to pull up the schedule. I took a look on DB website. From Rothenburg ob der Tauber to Würzburg Hbf, there are hourly trains (all with 1 change) starting from 8:06 until 20:06. All of them take around 1 hr 10 minutes.

Everyone,
Thanks for hanging in there with me! I finally got the schedules that 111op and yk mention. I would swear that I entered the same info as I had before, but this time it worked and gave me the earlier departures and only 1 change with total travel time of 1:10. It looks like the train will work for me after all.

Thanks, all!
