From Rome to Sicily

I need help with suggestions for getting to Sicily to Rome. Night train? Go to Naples and take the Ferry. Help!

Where in Sicily are you starting? I've taken the overnight train from Palermo to Rome. It's long, but if you get a couchette, it shouldn't be that bad. I, of course, had no couchette, but made friends with the people in my cabin. You can also fly...that would take the least amount of time. I have no idea what that would cost, however.

If you are already in Naples, you might as well take the train...it's only a few hours away from Rome.

You might go to the Alitalia web page and check the flights. I am flying round trip from Venice-Naples and then from Catania, Sicily to Milan for $371 in May.

Lisa

We recently flew to Rome, rented a car, and traveled from Naples to Palermo by ferry. We loved it.

Our travel was made very romantic by a warm & full moon night when we departed Naples, but the ability to spend one more day in the Naples area, and then be in Sicily the next morning after a restful night traveling by ship was really a plus. The ferry ride was definitely one of the highlights of our trip.

I am not sure what we would have done if we had arrived in Palermo without a car, but this means of traveling to Sicily worked well for us.

Bob
