From Rome to Civitaveechia???

We are taking a cruise ship from
Civitaveechia, and we are traveling
from Rome. Until know the prices
I found are $280.00 one way to
the Port., I search for the trains
but it says that you gave to walk at
least 4 blocks when you arrive at the Port.... and coming back you have to take a shuttle, and then
walk 4 blocks., with the baggages...
Please any suggestions?? I will appreciate it.
The cruise company, provides the
transportation, Only if you booked
the Hotel in Rome with them.

One other thought. Most cruise companies sell airport transfers for those that do not use cruise air. So, . . . in this case - it may be advantageous to return to the Rome airport from your hotel and then use the cruise line's transfers to the port.

You can very easily get a local train from Rome to Civitavecchia for probably less than 10 Euro.

The walk from the train station in Civitavecchia is all on level, paved sidewalks, and probably takes 10-15 minutes. Your cruise ship will be docked somewhat further on.

There will be taxis waiting at the Civitavecchia railway station which would take you directly to the cruise ship.

IMO you do not need to spend the kind of money quoted for a ship-run transfer.

Thank you brentp and Dukey, both
are possible solutions.
From Rome to the airport is half
an hour, and I have to find out
how much is the cruise transportation to Civitavecchia.
The train is the less money, and
as you said we can take the taxi
in the train station. I have
to look into this.
Thanks again.

We took the train from Rome, got off at Civitavechia, and with wheelie bags, walked slightly downhill and on to the ship. We did take a taxi back up the hill to the train station, because it was raining. A real no brainer, compared to the cruise prices.

Thank you Cmenoni.
We are doing the same, because the
cruise ship prices and the private
car prices are incredible!!!
Do you have any idea, of how far
in advance we have to leave from
Rome train station? Do you have
any hotels suggestions in Rome?
THANKS
