From Heathrow to Gatwick

I’m wondering if anyone can tell me about buying a bus ticket from Heathrow airport to Gatwick airport. Is it necessary to buy in advance or is it safe to buy on the day? It seems there is more than one bus company doing the trip. Does anyone have any experiences good or bad to share?

You can buy on the day

Nope - just the one - National Express

How long do you have between flights?

I’m not catching another flight. I’m meeting a friend at Gatwick then travelling on to Eastbourne. The “Rome to rio” website shows Megabus runs a service too. Is this not correct?

I think you are correct but National Express is much more frequent. Megabus can be cheaper but seems to run every 2-3 hours and NE runs roughly every 15-30 minutes depending on the time of day. Check directly on the Megabus site.

When arriving at LHR or any airport, you can't plan for a precise time when you'll get through immigration and get your bag and be ready to go. Therefore frequent service or flexibility in your onward journey is very important. After sitting on a plane for many hours and waiting a long time to get through immigration, then making your way to the LHR bus terminal, the last thing most people want to do is wait 2.5 hours for a bus. But it's nearly half the price. Time vs. money....your choice.
