From Granada to the beach

Hi All
Some advice would be grateful. I have boked a cheap return flight to Granada for 10 nights in June. Plan is to spend 4 nights in Granada, then go on to a beach for a rest, any ideas on a good place to chill and best travel tip. thanks
cazash, p.s we are mid 30's couple

The Malaga area is a short drive or train ride from Granada - the famous Costa del Sol. Torremelinos and a string of resorts are amongst europe's most popular beach destinations.

4 days in Granada - that would have my head scratching unless day tripping to Cordoba, Ronda, etc.

IMO, Nerja is probably the nicest beach resort near to Granada. Almuñecar is closer but not as pleasant, at least not when I was there a few years ago. Nerja is very touristy but it is pretty and has retained more charm than most other Costa del Sol resorts!

good suggestions. Costa del Sol is to me a non-descript string of modern high-rise hotels with little old-world charm.

PS I think there's plenty to do for four days in Granada. For instance, 1 day Alhambra, 1 day exploring the Albaicin, the moorish tea houses, and the troglodyte homes out in the Sacromonte area, 1 day taking in the cathedral area, shopping, markets and perhaps the monastery at la Cartuja, and 1 day hiking in the nearby hills. Not to mention all the tapas crawls, flamenco, etc. in the evenings!

hanl - you've convinced me to go back and get a more in-depth visit.

I did a lot of research and heard great things about Nerja, so we'll be staying there for 2 nights of our honeymoon in September. We'll be staying at the Parador, but I also got tons of recommendations for the Paraiso del Mar.
