from Dubrovnik to Venice?

I just spoke to travel agent and was told that it was practically IMPOSSIBLE to get from Dubrovnik to Venice. is that true? what are my options?
thanks

The travel agent is obviously useless.
You can get an overnight ferry from Dubrovnik to Bari then a train, or get Jadrolinija's coastal ship from Dubrovnik to Rijeka, then a bus and a train, or take a bus from Dubrovnik to Split, then an overnight ferry to Ancona and a train.

Thank you so much! though it still seems complicated, it sure is doable. would you reccomed we travel to venice in the morning? what is the approximate travel time?

The reference library of a city near you may have the Thomas Cook European Timetable. Some answers are these. You can confirm boat times using Google. I should choose to arrive in Venice in the morning by sleeper
from Dubrovnik at 1200 via Bari 2000 to 2134 to Venice at 0708
or from Dubrovnik at 0900 via Zagreb 2031 to 2317 to Venice at 0716
and I see neither journey as complicated.

Azzura Line from Dubrovnik to Bari
Dubrovnik 1200 Tuesdays in August, Bari 2000 to 2134, sleeper, Venice 0708
Dubrovnik 1300 Saturdays to 16 September, Bari 2100 to 2338, sleeper, Bologna 0402 to 0602, Venice 0810

Jadrolinja Line from Dubrovnik to Bari
Dubrovnik 2300 Tues, Weds and thurs to 28 September, Bari 0800 to 0903, restaurant car, Bologna 1504 to 1542, restaurant car, Venice 1726
Dubrovnik 1130 Fridays to 29 September, Bari 1930 to 2134, sleeper, Venice 0708
Dubrovnik 1230 Sundays to 1 October, Bari 2000 to 2134, sleeper, Venice 0708
Dubrovnik 1600 Saturdays to 9 September, Bari 2200 to 2338, sleeper, Bologna 0402 to 0602, Venice 0810

Jadrolinja Lines to Rijeka
Dubrovnik 1000 Thursdays and Sundays to 1 October, Rijeka 0700 to 1258, Ljubljana 1525 to 1710, Venice 2031
Or Dubrovnik 1000 Thursdays and Sundays to 1 October, Rijeka 0700, by bus from Rijeka to Trieste, then train Trieste 1647, Venice 1850
Dubrovnik 1000 Thursdays to 27 September, Rijeka 0700, bus to Ljublana, leave 10238 by train, Venice 1421

Daily catamaran of Aliscafi SNAV,
Dubrovnik, about 1100, bus, Split 1700 to 17 Septermber, Ancona 2130 to 0234, Venice 0708

By Jadrolinja three or four times each week
Dubrovnik about 1500, Split 2100, Ancona 0700 to 0815, Venice 1255

Bus, then train
Dubrovnik about 2359 by bus, Split 0740, buffet car, Zagreb 1310 to 1344, buffet car, Venice 2031
Dubrovnik about 0900 by bus, Split 1503, buffet car, Zagreb 2031 to 2317, sleeper, Venice 0716

We are doing something similar in September! Except I assumed we would make our way up the coast from Dubrovnik all the way to the Istria Peninsula and then make our way to Venice from there.

I am always impressed by this group and the quality of the answers. Thanks for confirming that this is doable. Timing the Jadrolinija schedule seems to be the tricky part.

If Jadrolinja give you no joy you can turn to the catamaran of Aliscafi SNAV from Split to Ancona (but with a dull time at Ancoina), or to the Azzura Line from Dubrovnik to Bari.

Blue Line (www.bli-ferry.com) has sailings every night from Split to Ancona. The ships have restaurants and cabins. The SNAV catamaran would not be convenient because it gets to Ancona in the evening so you'd have to spend the night there or spend a night sitting on trains.
