From Cuenca to Granada

Hello!

I have to go driving from Cuenca to Granada. It takes about 4,5 hours. I would like to know if there's any town worth visiting and stopping for an hour or so.
Somobody told me about Albacete, but the detour would take 1 more hour so I discarded it.
Google maps says the fastest route goes through some towns like:

Cuenca - La Almarcha - Honrubia - Atalaya del Cañavate - Villarobledo - Tormelloso - Manzanares - Santa Cruz de Mudela - Jaen - Granada

Does anybody know where can I stop to see a lovely old town or a nice landscape?

Tks!!

Manzanares

You might enjoy stopping in Manzanares, in the mountains of the Sierra de Madrid. There's also the 15th-century castle that's in excellent condition, but it may be too early for lunch at the Parador. You can be in the spa town of Santa Cruz de Mudela in around 3 hours. It does have one of the oldest bullrings in Spain, and the only one that is square. We stopped by a few years ago and yes, it is interesting. You can swing by Almagro before heading on to Santa Cruz de Mudela. For lunch, try La Vendimia or La Caliza.

" It takes about 4,5 hours"
Rather 5 1/2 hrs for the itinerary you mention (460 kms).

Jaén (or Úbeda) is very pretty and worth much more than an hour.

I like stopping at the castle in Belmonte.. Part of El Cid was filmed there. Take route 420, go across to Belmonte.. then Mota de Cuervo and continue to the amazing Consuegra ( windmills AND castle up long steep hill).. will put extra time but you will see part of the Don Quixote route and well worth it. lots of nice towns along those roads.. and little traffic.
