From Chirk to Warwick
We would like to depart the Chirk area by car in the morning and end in the vicinity of Warwick in the evening. Can you suggest a travel route? We were considering stopping in Shrewsbury along the way but that is not an absolute. Unfortunately, guide books I have consulted do not provide too much information regarding this area. Since we have the day, a route with castles and churches would be great. In regards to the actual driving, route planners I have tried all routed us right near Birmingham. I was thinking it would be best to stay as far away from the city as feasible in order to avoid major traffic issues. Opinions and suggestions please.

You can certainly avoid Birmingham while experiencing a number of churches, historic sites and scenic views (though few castles) by driving southeast of Shrewsbury to Worcester via Bridgnorth and Kidderminster, then east from Worcester via A422 to Alcester and A46 from Alcester to Warwick via Stradford. If you'd like specifics, Email me directly.

Sam, <BR>It's in Wales,in Clwyd county on the English border about 12kms south of Wrexham, Wales and 23kms northwest of Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England. Route 5 passes through it. Yes, there really is a Chirk!
