From Brussels any suggestions on trip?
 

We will be starting and returning our trip from Brussels. We want to go into Germany, Amsterdam (maybe France). We have two weeks any suggestions on a trip plan? We will have a car rented.

What time of year? And what would you like to do? When we lived in Brussels (and still do part time) our favorite road trips were to:
1. Baden-Baden (obviously not worth two weeks, but we love it as a resort town to relax in, do some shopping and dining, enjoy the pastries at the cafes and, believe it or not, best fried chicken in Europe at one friendly little spot). Spend a night or two there (our favorite hotel is the Dorint/Sofitel, which has its own excellent spa), then travel around Alsace and the Black Forest. BB is about a 5 hour drive from Brussels.
2. Franconia (northern Bavaria). Nuremberg, Bamberg, etc. Also Wurzburg. A week there and a week in Bavarian would be pleasant.
3. Muensterland/northern Westphalia. Muensterland is beautiful, quiet, and well off the beaten tourist path. Nordkirchen, Luedinghausen, Vischering, etc. are small, attractive towns home to the region's lovely "water castles". Muenster itself has an attractive old town (I know your son and his family have recently moved to Brussels; if they decide to do the Christmas markets in Germany, Muenster has one of the best, most picturesque and most authentic, it should definitely be on their list--you will see far more Germans than foreign tourists). From there, they could head up to Bremen or Hamburg.
We spent 6 months in the Ruhr Valley and found it far more appealing than expected (however, we have family there and they knew where all the best bits were). If you head over to Muensterland, you should make a point of visiting Hattingen, a delightful little medieval town (the kids would love it) that escaped the bombings of WW II.

Paris is one hour away from Brussels on the Thalys train. If you haven't been to Paris before, then I would recommend going there. Paris is such a great city. Amsterdam is about 3:30 away from Brussels on the same Thalys.

Thanks, we will be traveling in October. We are visiting our daughter in Belgium and thought two or three trips out of Belgium (staying overnight several days) would allow us to see parts of Germany and Amsterdam. We are in Belgium now and plan to go to Paris tomorrow.
