From Barcelona would you train or fly to Granada?

What would be the easiest and quickest way to get to Barcelona to Granada? We will be there early October and will have our 2 year old with us.

The train ride takes 7 1/2 hrs. There is a night train with sleeping cars too.
Vueling flights are usually cheaper and take 1 1/2 hrs; add 3 hrs for land transport and check in.

Flying should shave something off the seven-and-a-half hours that the train takes, even with the time it takes to get to the airport, check-in, security and all that, depending on where you'll be staying. Vueling and Iberia, possibly others, fly the route, Vueling often for less than 60 euros.

Taking the train will require a switch in Antequera, the train leaving Barcelona goes to Málaga. For example, the 08:30 gets to Antequera at 14:02 and at 14:36 you have a train for Granada, arrives at 16:06. See

You could take the night train at 10PM, it goes all the way and gets to Granada at 09:11, if you think you'd be OK with a private sleeper cabin.

I know nothing about babies - maybe they fly or ride for free? Does anyone know?

I know nothing about flying with a child, but a child under four not occupying a seat, i.e. sat on you knee :-) on the train in Spain will be free. Confirm on the RENFE website.

On YOUR LAP for HOW MANY hours??? Forget that one. It doesn't take that long to get to the airport in Barcelona and although I am usually a great rail advocate on this one i would definitely fly. Buy those tickets ASAP to get the best price.
