From Airport to Hotel in Rome (Taxi or Train?)

We'll be going to Rome in August. I need info or opinion on which is better, taking the taxi or taking the train from the airport to our hotel. What is the cost for either Taxi or Train? How much money do you really save? Is it worth the savings and hassle to take the train?

I'm not sure where your hotel is, but we made the trip from the Termini train station to the airport and it cost $40. For us it was worth it because it was the end of our trip, we were exhausted and we had 2 pieces of heavy luggage.

I've heard it's relatively easy and much less expensive to take the train from the airport to Termini, so if you're starting your trip and you're on a budget, it might not be a bad idea (altho it will be crazy hot in August). You may want to take a cab from Termini to your hotel anyway. Your hotel should be able to quote you approximate cab fare from both the airport and Termini train station.

Enjoy your trip!

Oops! Maybe it was clear anyway, but that was a $40 cab ride from Termini to the airport (that's including the luggage surcharge).

Cab is typically $30 (low) to $45 (high) from airport to hotel in center city. Train is about $8 per person, and then you'd probably take a cab for $5 or $10 to the hotel unless you like dragging a bag (or two) on the Metropolitana or bus.

At the end of a long transatlantic trip we find roughly $15 difference worthwhile. It's also, by the way, far less hassle to find a legitimate cab at the airport than at the Termini most often.

Rome.Switzerland.Bavaria
www.twenj.com
Thanks for the info. A co-worker told me it would cost up to $100. I thought that was too high considering our hotel is only 19 miles away (0n Piazza Navona Area). My co-worker also told me that taking the train is not that difficult as long as we just bring hand-carry luggage. We plan to bring a regular suitcase. Also, After a long flight from California, I don't know if I'd like to take a train. Both of your advice sounds better.

Once again, thanks for the info.

Good morning A?
Go into wwww.adr.it/en/fiumic/ on
transportation options. As Ed states
the small additional is worth the
trip after a long flite. Only remark
on taxis to get a metered, madialioned
taxi from the taxi line, do not accept
offers from others, agree to the fair
before getting into the cab. The taxi
starter speaks very good enlish.

Richard of La Grange Park, Il..
