Frite Stands in Paris?
 

I notice alot of comments about crepe stands all over Paris - is there such a thing as a frite stand?

Did some research on the board, and noticed alot of posts about the best steak & frites and moules & frites, but not alot of posts about just buying frites as a snack.

Would frite stands be more of an belguim thing?

that's what I'm thinking... have never noticed a 'frites' stand either.

If you're around the St. Michel area, the "gyros" shops sell simply a cone of frites...

Per se, I don't believe so, but the Turkish sandwich shops often sell "made in France" fries alone.

Frites stands are much more common in Brussels - where I beleive they really originated. (Like what we call "Venetian" blinds really coming from Turkey and Danish pastries being called Vienna bread in Denmark.)

There are some people on these boards who know better than I, some who eat all their meals from stands, it seems :)
But I have never heard of a frite stand.
But wherever you eat, you can get frites.

My daughter just returned from Brussels and yes, it is more of a Belgium thing :D

Oh absolutely! There's a frites stand at the end of the rue St-Jacques in the 5th called La Friterie. Maybe you saw it in <u>Before Sunset</u>?

Pomme frites are definitely more of a Belgian thing. There are lots of them in Amsterdam too.

You can buy frites to go from the window of a caf&eacute; on rue de Bellechasse between the Mus&eacute;e d'Orsay and Blvd St-Germain.

Are we talking about frite stands as in the guy standing at a cart and selling just frites?
Because many cafes and shops will sell you just frites..that would not be a stand though..would it? That is just take out fries.

Belgium has stands that just sell frites with a variety of toppings, mayo etc.

I haven't seen this except for one in the Flea Mkt in Paris but it did not look safe to eat from LOL.

How nice to be able to walk up to a man with a cart ( like NYC with the pretzels) and get a cone of fries, crisp and hot ) but then, greasy fingers are a problem ... ha! it all comes down to needing a table and fork and napkins for me :D

I can't recall seeing any stands that sell only French fries in Paris, although in a city of this size, I'm sure there must be a few. Cr&ecirc;pe stands would outnumber them by a zillion to one, though.

Scarlett - I sort of thought the most common place to get frites was at any cafe, but I wondered if it was a street food also.
