I've been to all the European countries, save Lithuania, and I've encountered everything from the couple that we met in Chamonix that offered to be our tour guides the day after we skied Mont Blanc to a grumpy old man that made fun of my german and didn't think I understood what he said under his breath in Austria.

However, I did spend one St Patty's day in Praha (Prague) that I'll never, ever forget. Hardly anyone there spoke english but everyone new all the words to all the american songs all night long. Had a BLAST and about (15) 40 cent heineken equivalents.

peace,

Tim

I would have to say the Greeks and the Italians are the most welcoming peoples when it comes to dealing with tourists. They encourage your attempts at their language and welcome you like one of their family.
