Keep in mind that some parts of Italy are usually really, really hot in August--not just uncomfortably warm. Florence is one of the hottest spots in the country in the summer, and situalted as it is in its river valley, it's humidity tends to be much higher than other parts of Tuscany.

Darn it, hit post my reply by accident. It's not an everyday occurence, but it's not unusual for temperatures to hit 100 F in Florence--and it averages 13 to 14 days over 90 F. in both July and August.

If actually being out and about in that sort of heat doesn't bother you, then go for it, but for many people it does cause problems.

Keep in mind that most of us who live in hot/humid summer climes don't go out sightseeing around the old home town when it's 95 F. It's one thing to go from your A/C house, to A/C car, to A/C office, and back. It's another to start tromping around outside from place to place.

If you do go in hot weather, get an A/C hotel room, undertake outdoor activities in the morning and evening, do indoor activities or take a siesta or sit in a shady cafe in the heat of the day. Dress lightly in light colored clothing, wear a hat and sunblock. Drink plenty of water. Use a mighty deodorant.

And have a good time.
