Frequency of visits to Italy from the U.S.

Is there a limit to the number of times I can travel to Italy in a given year? Thank you.

If you visit really often the immigration officers might have detailed questions for you -- as long as you have legit answers you are OK.

But . . . you are limited to 90 days total in any consecutive 6 month period.

The limit is set by the amount of time, your nationality, and the type of entry document you are using, etc. and not necessarily by the number of visits. If you are a U.S. citizen on leisure visit without Visa, read the general statement by the US State department https://travel.state.gov/content/pas...try/italy.html
The Schengen rule is set by the number of days.

It is possible that you can violate the rule in just one visit while you may be staying within the rule with 40 visits.

I thought the question was going to be how many visits have American Fodorians made to Italy and was counting while the page loaded.

totally true -- but if one has frequent visits the immigration officers may see a red flag and delve deeper. Nothing at all wrong w/ visiting frequently, but border control might wonder why and have the right to ask. Regardless if one is within the 90 day limit.

No one is guaranteed 90 days, only up to 90 days.

I for one would love to have an opportunity to push those limits!
