Frenchman

Has anyone experienced the French bad mouthing Americans to each other in front of you. I can understand French and have had this happen to me 3 different occations. Once it was because of the amount of luggage that I had with me on the train. One man looked to his wife and said that only Americans would travel so heavy. Another occation in Nice 2 men were discussing how stupid American women were and how easy it was to sleep with them. The last time was at a hotel in Paris when I inquired of a good restaurant they told me of a rotisseri chicken place a block or two away and basically laughed with each other talking about how simple Americans tastes were wanting only burgers and fries. Just wondered what others experiences were. My next trip is to Hawaii.

Yes...AND???
Americans do this all the time to travelers and to their fellow country man. Ok, its sad and its rude but, it is a part of life at home and abroad.

My friends and I have been to France a few times. We speak the language. Never heard a Frenchman bad mouth a tourist, but I am guilty of saying disparaging remarks to my friends, in French, about some tourist.

I think that the French are just like any other. There are good and bad, nice and mean. They just generally want you to respect their culture and their language.

Enjoy Hawaii. Try one of the volcano hikes.
