french wine shipping

Are there any specific difficulties shipping a case of wine to U.S from France while there or can one easily carry a case onto Iceland air, put it in an overhead and get it through customs or should I just drink it there? thanks so much.

They sell styrofoam boxes for a case of wine. I brought one back from Italy and used it as one piece of my check baggage, then carried 6-8 and put them in the overhead bin. Shipping would cost you at least $150 per case. ((b))

Bring it with you. Your state may or may not allow shipments of wine and the cost is prohibitive.

A case of wine weighs a lot. I don't think it's worth trying to bring back more than a bottle or two. I don't know where you live, but here in California at least there's a huge selection of French wine available. I do a lot of wine tasting and note-taking when in Europe, but then buy the wines (perhaps 80% are available or can be ordered) back here in the States.

And... as Gretchen says, the jurisdiction over your importation of wine lies with the state Alcoholic Beverages Commission (including each state you pass through - - most notably, the state of the airport in which you forst arrive in the United States).

Best wishes,

Shipping wine to the U.S. is very difficult, as for the most part an importer's license is required. Much easier to schlep it with you.
