French Wine Guide

There have been a couple of threads on Food Guides but how about a wine guide? I want something small. The following site lists a few books but I don't want a big book. Just something so that when I go in a wine store I can pick out something decent. In the past we have just picked a wine in our price range from a region we know but would like to do better.

Hi R,

France has as many wines as cheeses (450 or so) and you want a small book?

Red Bordeaux and Burgundy
White Burgundy and the Loire

I got the DH a small pocket sized wine guide by Robert Parker one time. I'll try to find it and post the link.

Sorry, it wasn't Robert Parker. It was by Hugh Johnson. measures about 7x3, half an inch thick:

Hugh Johnson is the classic wine guide writer. Another you might consider is the Food and Wine magazine pocket wine guide; they update every year.

Well, Ira, I was hoping ;).

The Hugh Johnson book is excellent, but you could also have a look at the one by Oz Clarke.
