French washing machine, anyone who lives in France have one of these????
 

I'm trying to use a Brandt Malice A Levante-Sechante washer/dryer and I am getting an error message D17.
I am in a rental apartment in Paris and I am unable to get the washing machine to function properly. The management is not around until monday. It keeps giving an error message D17 and the machine stops. Does anyone out there know how to fix it or can you tell me what's happening? I'm a little upset because I paid extra for a washer and dryer that's not working.

Any ideas?

I can't help you with this one but while I was making researches to find out on french forums, I noticed you wrote on one of those. Someone answered you should write in French if you want to get a reply.

I've found a web page with the user manuals on it. What model number is it?

There is an answer in French on a forum. It seems you can't do anything by yourself, something (magnet, lodestone seems to be broken underneath

I then found a great discussion o this error on a user forum. It's the magnet that has become disconnected.

"simply:
1) remove the left side of the machine.
2 2 disassemble the black box (after disconnecting of the machine And 2 red wires which go into to this little black box located under the block which supports the drum.
3) open the plastic box. On the inside you will see written instructions"

I have to say, faced with that, I'd find a laudrette and call a repair man on Monday

The washing machine that I bought at BHV in 1991 is still going strong and has never required any repairs. Primitive and of Czech origin.

A professional engineer speaks: please, please STOP and THINK before attempting your own repair of an unfamiliar piece of electrical equipment. Even with the mains power off, you could still recieve a nasty shock from a charged capacitor, and there's a risk your bungled attempts at repair could damage the machine or induce a brand new and potentially dangerous safety fault. Find a public laundry and get the landlord to sort it out on Monday.
