Hi all, my first post!!

We will be in France at the start of July and are thinking of getting a train from Caen to Paris. I can get a return for 5 people (3 adults/2 kids) for £111.00. I was wondering if this was a good price for travel within France or could I get it cheaper on the day by just turning up at Caen. Any info well appreciated

It seems (if my foreign converter translator is right)that you got the Prem's ticket at 15€(single ticket)
This is the cheapest rate you can find on the SNCF website unless they do special sales.
Have a look here to see if you get the same price.

Thanks for that - the website you directed me to is a French version of the one I had been using!!

I take it this is the easiest and cheapest way to book train tickets

I am certainly looking forward to visting France and trying out my very basic French!!

The trains between Caen and Paris are not TGVs and reservations are optional, so you can always buy a ticket at the station and get on the next train. Standard tickets are completely flexible and are valid on any train.
The standard one-way fare is 28.40 euros per adult person, and that is what you'd pay at the station. A return (round trip) ticket would be exactly double, 56.80 euros.

If you used www.voyages-sncf.com and found PREMS fares, that is the lowest cost ticket available.

You will pay more if you wait, because PREMS fares sell out quickly.

Note that you can print your tickets at home.

I presume Prems are available for adults too - I can get return tickets for 3 adults and 2 kids for 151 Euros, which seems extremely good value considering the price of train travel within the UK!!
