French Train Schedules?
My husband and I are planning a trip to France and would like to get a look at the rail schedules from Paris to points south (incl. TGV). We haven't had much luck on the Net so far, although we've learned a lot about the history of the TGV and its place on the cutting edge of French technology. We just want to see the timetables!! Is there a way to do this on the Net (and possibly make a reservation as well)?

I too have been searching to find the TVG schedule between Paris and Rennes with little success. Also, I have not found anything of help in the local bookstores. If I remember right, I think Thomas Cook publishes the latest train schedules in Europe. They don't sell them where I live. I wish you success. I do recommend that you take trips south. On the TVG is not worth the price of first class as it takes so little time to get there. 2nd class is your best value. If you are eligible and get a senior card this makes travel cost almost nominal. All travel agents in Paris could make TVG train reseravation the last time we were there--that is the easy way. Make certain that the know the ticket validation process required when boarding a train. The process can seem strange to the average American.

YES! You can find on the web the timetables of TGV trains in France and other trains in Europe. This site is maintained made by NS (Nederlandse Spoorwegen) - the national train company of the Netherlands. I've been using it quite a lot. It is very simple and clear and very well done. It is in Dutch but this is not a problem. Try then : http://nsr1.ns.nl/reisplan1a.asp or http://www.ns.nl and choose "Internationale Treinplanner"... Bye Joćo

Call DER (a tour company) 800-937-1234 and the phone message will direct you thru the prompts for train schedules. You will be instructed to identify the two cities you will be traveling between. Prices for 1st and 2nd class service and a time scheduled will be faxed to you within seconds. You will not speak to a person. Good luck

French TGV schedules are readily available on the
WEB in two places:
www.sncf.fr (the site of the French Natl RR)
and
www.raileurope.com (US European RR ticket sale co.)
The SNCF site only includes schedules for TGVs and
short runs within the Ile de France (i.e., no longer
runs that are NOT TGV are listed), but no fares.
Raileurope lists fares which I think include a
service surcharge of about $10 per trip, but should
be approx. correct for longer runs.

Diane and Paul - I am so sorry I gave you incorrect information in my message. I was working on 2 replys and you guessed it - I criss crossed them. Call Rail Europe 800 848-7245 for automated service. Go thru the prompts for point to point prices and schedule. This will be faxed within seconds. Sorry about the confusion.

I am going to France this Sept. and this website has been great for finding the train timetables. The address is //www.bahn.hafas.de/ Go to the bottom of the page to select info in English, then click onto "current timetable". After that, it's as simple as entering your departing city, arriving city, the date and the time and various train times will appear. I don't think you can make reservations, but it's helped me determine where I want to go and how long it will take to get there by train. Good luck.
