My wife and I will be staying at the Golfe Bleu resort nearby and overlooking Monaco. We plan to use the train in getting around to see the area along the coast. Any ideas for good restaurants and festive activities in late June would be appreciated. Thank you.

AFAIK the trains don't stop at the railway station Roquebrune - Cape Martin any longer.

Bus 100 goes all along the coast and it only costs 1 euro. I found this to be a much better option than the train.

Well Midsummer's day - or Saturday or Sunday closest to the solstice is marked all over France by many street musicians taking to the streets - an officially designated day for musicians to take their music to the masses - all over every city but I would think Nice would be nice for that!

A single bus ticket is €1.50 since last May. Still a bargain though.

That's weird, I was there in June 2013 and it was only 1 euro from Menton to Monaco. Maybe it's different depending on where you board and how far you go. In any case I think it's a better option than trains.

far better - to me the train is better as it tracks right along the coast for much of the time between Nice and Menton, that is when it is not in tunnels.

In fact I would rate the train ride Nice-Ventimiglia one of the most scenic in France.

Have you actually taken the train before?

Yes I used the train too but in Monaco the train station was far from where I wanted to be while the bus made several stops in town. I also rode the train to Ventimiglia and it was very nice.

Yes the nicest train part is from Monaco to Ventimgilia.

Well the buses go everywhere and are super cheap! Also I think in most cases they stop more "in town" - one poster mentions Monaco, and I also know that in Nice the train station is away from "Old Nice" - Antibes is the same, if I remember correctly. So I've used both, in fact on my very first trip to Europe we were riding in the train along the coast and it was so beautiful I cried. But I still think in general for getting around, the bus may be cheaper, more frequent, and more convenient.

It looks like Menton departure bus increased on July 1st. In June it was probably still €1.00.

In many other areas ( especially departure Nice ) the price changed already in May. So No.100 from anywhere to anywhere today costs €1.50. That's a huge 50% increase ;-)

We took the train the Villefranche-sur-Mer and loved that little town. Try and go on a day that there are no cruise ships in port.

We went to Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat to the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild
Villa which was beautiful.

We also took the train to Ventimiglia and Bordighera. We had lunch along the sea in Bordighera.

I love the Cap d'Ail to Monaco walk - right along an untouched coast - the likes of which have disappeared from much of the coast long ago - you see the signature Cote d'Azur coast line of slender cypress trees somehow impossibly clinging to boulders that seem frozen while tumbling towards the sea.

You pass isolated swimming holes - no suit required and don't be bashful if you see others skinny dipping - this is a short sweet few mile stroll from the Cap d'Ail train station to Monaco - emerging there by the yacht club.

Debit, I also loved the Rothschild Villa, especially the dancing fountains.
