french riviera

which towns would you recommend for a family of 5 (parents and teens) for 3 days. We will have spent a week in Provence first. travel is early august, budget about $600.00 / night maximum.

We really liked Nice and had a week there in an apartment. There is lots to see and do and also easy day trips by bus or train. I don't know if you can rent an apartment for only 3 days but this is the website we used if you want to take a look. With 3 teens it might be easier for meals, laundry, just having more space etc.

August will be hot and that's when most Europeans go on their holidays so you may not have your choice of places. Unless you mean August next year?

With 3 teens in august? Juan les Pins.

Nice is wonderful--lots to see and do, and good restaurants in all price ranges. From Nice you can visit sights both east and west, inland and on the coast, by public transportation.

Yes, Nice is wonderful, but the vote of my teens would go to juan les pins, especially after you have spend a week in provence. It is hot there in August! I dont know what kind of sites you want to see, but from juan you can take a train, and be back in the afternoon for the beach, and cocktails at pampam.

I second juan les pins. That's a great spot!

I loved both Nice and Juan Les Pins. Nice has more to offer, Juan les Pins is more "manageable" with an overall younger vibe. If there on a Monday, do not miss the flea markets at Nice-- Cours Saleya (Old Town). If I were you I would rent an apartment; AC a MUST!

We went with two college-age kids and a high-schooler. We stayed in Juans Les Pins for 6 nights and loved it. Every morning we got breakfast at a nearby bakery and market. Most early afternoons we spent at the pool. Then we'd get up, shower and dress, and drive to one or another town - we hit Monaco, Antibes (adjacent to Juans Les Pins, so a few times), Cannes and St. Tropez. (This was the end of a longer trip so we weren't there for sightseeing, just enjoying the weather, the food and the vibe).

Sainte Maxime is a very pleasant little seaside resort town just outside of St. Tropez. It's just big enough, with a handful of restaurants, shops, a small casino, a waterfront park where the locals gather for boulles every evening, and a great beach. Lots of accomodations along the beach. The town is bike friendly, and bike rentals are available.
