Yes, I am sure you did send me a nice map with both my hotel and the nearby place to have a cup of coffee and pastry. Now all I have to do is find it in this huge pile of stuff I have downloaded. I have to go through it anyway to reduce it to a manageable amount to pack. The thought of actually meeeting you and sharing breakfast with you is a wonderful one. :-) I think I have your mobile number in my file, and will call you, either on the evening of the 16th or morning of the 17th. I'll send you an email to confirm that I have the correct number, and see if I can find a picture of my wife and I so you can recognize us. Looking forward to seeing you -- and the pastries, too, of course. :-) |

If you don't like alcohol/spirit soaked pastries, avoid the sponge cake <baba au rhum> and most pastries with pastel green or pink icing.
If you like butter (real), sugar, and bread...only the Breton Kouign Amann will do! |
OK, I tried several pastries, including
- tartelette au fraises - couple of macarons (pink and green) - Amorino gelato (caffee, chiocolotti, Nutella) Had two other pastries, but, aarrgggh, don't have the <i>names</i>... can you help? 1. round shape, flat top, lowest layer was like chocolate mousse, top layer was lighter cream layer; entire pastry was covered with a dark chocolate 'skin'(like a Dove bar), and decorated on top with little 'sticks' 2. rectangular shape(like opera or Napoleon), thin pastry bottom, lower layer was creamy milk chocolate, upper layer was like cheesecake, topped with a glaze (sort of burnt orange color, but didn't taste like orange). All I can remember when I asked what it was, is " ____ plaisir". If you can't help with the pastry names, I'll be driven to search these out on all future trips, quel horreur! |

I found this for "plaisir aux noisettes" : http://fr.puratos.be/support_service...met_noten.aspx not sure it is you cake though. yesterday I had macarons from one of the best shops in Dijon (Fabrice Gitlotte http://www.chocolat-gillotte.com/index_gb.html ) chocolate and rasperry (brown and pink then) I've already tasted rose and vanilla ones, everything they sell is to die for! (incredible chocolates with spices for ex) Now we are waiting for nukesafe to tell us what he had in Dijon (not sure he will remember... ;-) ) |
I am a raspberry addict, so my favorite French/Belgian pastry is bavarois framboise. Delicious and not that many calories.

woh, i need to top this, to 'study' to see if any of the great suggestions are anywhere near our apartment (Parisperfect/chardonay). I can't wait, my mouth is watering. we 'make' Madelines and can't wait to try the real thing and anything made out of choux pastry will be a hit.

ah éclairs, religieuses, figues, profiterolles, Paris Brest, st Honoré, gougères.... the list is long with pâte à chou pastries! I'm sure you'll find everything you like aussidreamer!
