French music for Zumba? Go figure!

Since Zumba is known for its fantastic latin music, I was surprised that this French song is now one of the most requested in the class. The students chant "French, French, French" until the instructor plays it. It's obviously a popular song as it has over a million hits on Youtube. Just thought I'd share. BTW, do they do Zumba in Paris? |
Zumba? Could you explain a bit more, please?
You'd be even more surprised if you knew what Tu Es Foutu meant. I've been using this in Spinning for years...
Oh my! What a fantastic video! the song is so dynamic and powerful! thanks for sharing!

Zumba is a dance fitness craze. Besides a bazillion youtubes you can find out more about it at www.zumba.com which also has a "class finder" function (if you're serious about finding a class in Paris). Zumba is world-wide... and it IS fabulous (i started 1 year ago and am totally and completely addicted).
Yup, 38 classes listed for Paris
kerouac---are you going to Zumba?
amyb----so what does it mean?
The English lyrics are nothing like the French.
you are screwed up
suze---what do you mean? MademoiselleFifi or what? And what about the lyrics?
Tu Es Foutu = you are screwed up
Now I get it! Merci.
sorry TPAYT, I couldn't resist pulling your leg above.
actually i assume it really means "you are f@#$%ed up" but screwed up is what www.free translation gave me. i find that song extremely hypnotic, dreamlike. that's what it has in common with many of the latin zumba songs. |
actually, "tu es foutu" means "you're done for".
It doesn't have the taboo emotional force of its English cognate, as with "con".
However, the root verb "foutre" is a most definitely vulgar word in French, even though its various conjugations have lost most of their nastiness.
Whatever !!...I still love this video and song...it is unbelievable!...I am still playing it as much as possible...the french version is much better than the english version.

A French cyclist I met last year said the closest English translation is "you're f*cked".
