I have lots of french male friends.
Most of these French friends are not particularly good looking.
I have yet to find a pleasant taxi driver in Paris. (They are mostly rude and don't know where they are going unless they have a GPS).
Bad news - You are unlikely to meet cute "decent" French men in Paris - particualrly in a bar.

The first person I ever met in Paris was a cab driver, who took us into the city from CDG. He was GREAT. Made an appointment to meet us at the hotel a week later the morning we would be returning. He was there 1/2 an hour early, handled all our baggage for us.
(BTW, I wouldn't want to imply that I think French men are NOT good looking. Of course, it's a matter of taste - both generally and specifically. Specifically, I've definitely known one or two who could wind my clock - and one or two others who could stop it.)

A gentleman in France to use the description "wound up my clock" was a blue eyed blond Viking ... I was single then but he was soooooo young and I felt sooooo old... Thank goodness for those sunglasses.

The complex issue of male/female relations is based is 3 basic facts of live:
1 - If a lady says "no", she means "maybe"
2 - If a lady says "maybe", she means "yes"
3 - If a lady says "yes", then don't bother, she's not even a lady

This has got to be one of the top three weird threads I have ever read here! But some lessons to take away about french people (good branding by them so far as "cute"), latin people (apparently some latin men can't make friends with women), american women (apparently some like to hit on smelly fishermen of Greek or French origin), women in general (I hope Lobo is kidding but the translations are always interesting re-reads), ways to combat poor euro/dollar conversion rate (do social surveys
in bars and lounges!), german women (going after all african men, apparently), waiters (apparently they keep quality behind aprons), etc etc.
Per the posts above, summing it together:
- If a man, one must be an african greek/french fisherman dressed as a waiter in a bar or a lounge right when the German women come in.
- If a woman, apparently, everything is easy.
Of course, if you are from Georgia, fuhget about it

When I was in Paris with my two daughters, who were 18 and 21 at the time, the men were crawling out of the woodwork everywhere we went. In the streets, parks, restaurants, museums, you name it! We were constantly appraoched by men of all nationalities.
Most of the French men appraoched me first, as the mama, telling me how beautiful my daughters were and then proceded to try to flirt with them. Occasionally, to my daughters' delight, I would actually be the object of the primary attention (usually when the man was old enogh to be their grandfather!)We had fun with it and had sevaral very enjoyable conversations and were never persued to the point of rudeness.
In a small crepe house, late one evening, one of the waiters sent over a carafe of wine to our table. When he got off work, a large table of 15 or so of his friends had come in and they were drinking wine and having a great time. They invited us to join their table (all young people) so we did and had a lot of fun talking with everyone. The young men were obviously smitten by my daughters but were totally respectful. These kids were clearly friends, even though it was a mixed gender group. Perhaps the younger generation has been able to figure out how to be friends with the opposite sex!

Certainly true. And I'd say the younger generation is more or less the postwar one. The French and Italian people I know (or many of them) seem to be capable of friendships with the opposite sex. With as many women as there are in the workplace in western Europe, e normale, as they say.

A sidebar comment - this recalls how Edith Cresson condemned all Englishmen as homosexuals because they didn't flirt with her when she visited London as Prime Minister of France. I don't know whether anyone would have given the diplomatic answer (that it would have been considered the height of disrespect to her office to do so). I assume no-one made the obvious retort.

I wouldn't dream of psychoanalysing Fodors posters (well I would, but I wouldn't publish the results here).
As for Mme Cresson, well, as I said, I'm rather hors de combat, but let's face it, she was never an Audrey Tautou or Juliette Binoche. She had rather the look of the tag-along friend who guards the handbags and the taxi-fare home.

Meet french men in Paris is quite easy, specially in summertime. As lot of members said, just go in public places where french likes to go: public gardens where they often do picnic , bank of seine river, music bars. Paris plage, outdoor cinema at la villette etc...
It s true when French will start to talk with you, his idea is to get a proposal for sex... But most of time starting to talk with u, it s quite easy to change his mind and have a simple and nice talk together, like old friends.
The "dragueurs" are not the most interesting guys you can meet. But if you just need some fun, you will get it.
If you see a guy who is interesting you, you can also find a reason to talk to him ( it has plenty of reasons, don t forget you are foreigner and need lot of advises about everything ... So don t be shy and go). In this case you can get chance to meet french more interesting, not thinking about sex on a first time ( later probably hahaha) and start relationship with him.
Real french men are nice and polite usually and gentle. If not, it s not french guy ...
