Anthony you have some strange ideas and often they are absolutes.

Kind of like saying "all men from Georgia are bigots."

"In Latin cultures ... friendship between the sexes is considered impossible"
Something is not making sense in this thread. I believe I should have missed that particular lesson of Latin culture...

Another Urban Legend: French men don't have women friends,
American women are easy.
What I have noticed is that French Women don't go out in groups like Americans.
That SOME American women with have a fling with let'say a French fisherman (or Greek)and think it romantic but would never give a let's say, a Maine fisherman a second look.

Yes, French men have women friends but many think that a lover cant be a friend..or so I was told many years ago. I have set the record straight.

Not only that, EX-lovers can be friends, too. Maybe not always right away....

Between ira, anthony, scuba and now cigale, this has become a funny thred. Cigale "That SOME American women with have a fling with let'say a French fisherman (or Greek)and think it romantic but would never give a let's say, a Maine fisherman a second look." Is it just the accent? Do you know any of these some american women?

Hi J,

Amongst my own age group, females have generally gotten beyond their gonads, but among those of my daughters' generation, I hear stories of wonderful waiters, cab drivers, tour guides, bartenders,...

In short, people that they wouldn't look at twice at home.

Well, Ira, if the guys they're meeting are waiters, bartenders, cab drivers ...
I think a YOUNG woman in Paris who would like to meet a younh man should seek out a lecture at the Sorbonne or another school, or at a museum - even if she doesn't speak French, she can listen and keep her eyes on the young scholars. And being university students they'll likely have all the language skills necessary ...

Aren't you guys being a bit snobby? Waiters, cab drivers, tour guides, bartenders,...are beneath you?

I agree with SeaUrchin. You guys sound like my grandparents. This may come as a shock, but many women today are capable of earning their own incomes and thus no reason to choose a boyfriend based on how he earns his pennies. We choose instead based on personality, integrity, compassion, wit...and most importantly looks. We hope he doesn't wear pleated pants (ugh). That's a dealbreaker.

No way, Sea Urchin - as a one-time bartender and waiter myself, I can tell you there's a lot of quality behind the apron ...

julianna, don't leave. I'm queen of typos!
This thread should have stayed light hearted and not into sexual politics.
But this happens all the time, dommage.

What a lovely thread!

Casual racism, sweeping generalisations and some incredibly blinkered views. Fabulous.

It must be all the traveling that has opened certain posters minds.
