French hotel booking sites that don't require a credit card number?

I want to see availablilty and cost of hotel rooms in Arles, France, before I book, but hotel booking sites require a credit card no before they tell you anything. Is there a good site that doesn't require credit cards?

www.hrs.de (Actually, it will let you book worldwide)

I find it easier and more efficient to correspond by fax with hotels directly.

www.logis-de-france.fr does not require a card # unless making a reservation.

Which site(s) are you using that require a credit card before providing availability information? Most sites don't ask for a card number until you actually book a reservation.

I've never seen a hotel booking site that didn't tell you the price of the rooms up-front, although I have seen some want it for availability requests, maybe.

I'm not familiar with Arles hotels sites specifically, but there are usually sites specific to cites operated by local tourism boards, etc, just for publicity.
These two sites are good for listing lots of hotels in Arles with info on how to contact them, some hotels have direct links and booking ability from them:

www.gaf.tm.fr (the most comprehensive for France I've seen)
www.provenceweb.fr

It's absurd that a hotel would ask you for credit card information before showing you basic information about the hotel. This is the sort of thing that happens to people who rely solely on the internet to get info about travel. If you had a guidebook or had looked up information on hotels in Arles on the internet, you'd be prepared with at least a dozen hotels that didn't require a credit card before giving out info on the hotel. I don't know what the problem is, but get a guidebook and check out hotels on the internet before turning over your credit card to some stupid site that requires it before you actually get the information. Be savvy!!!

thank you all for the info ! I wanted availability of hotels on certain dates and the cost varies a lot depending on those dates. There were quite a lot of sites that required your credit card no before they would give you that info, although they said that if you cancelled within 72 hours, they would not take the money!!! I only give my no. if I'm booking ! I've found some by using the hotel name on Google.
