French francs

Is it still possible to convert French francs to euros in Paris?

Perhaps your best place is the bank..

I was surprised to find in an old purse 200 francs..Of course now they are not worth too much.

I may just keep them for souvenir or give them to the Franciscan Missions, they always ask for foreigns moneys any kind, even coins.

yes, if you go to a branch of the Banque de France. I think they are supposed to exchange them for 10 years after the introduction of the euro.

This is good to know. I was checking out my bag o' foreign currency this weekend in search of Euro from last summer's trip and fell upon a shocking amount of French francs and lire.

Hi Irish,

You can only convert bills, not coins, at the rate of about 6.5 FF/E.

You can still exchange both French Franc coins (till Feb 17 2005) and notes (till Feb 17 2012) at a branch of Banque de France. Old currencies can only be exchanged at a national bank of whichever country that issued them.

We exchanged Francs at an exchange place on rue Duphot, in the first arr and a few feet from the restaurant Goumard, 9, rue Duphot. The rate was not as good as the bank would give but it was handy. There must be others... JP
