French demand CROWN JEWELS from the Queen for 1499 murder...

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...#ixzz20mo01Of3

I recently returned from a lovely swing through the CHATEAU COUNTRY in the Loire Valley. The area is steeped in the history of the ongoing feud between France and England for over five centuries about sovereignty which brought about the bloody Hundred Years’ War.

Their claims from an article in the July 16, 2012 DAILY MAIL on line, “French demand Crown Jewels from the Queen to compensate for 1499 murder of Edward Plantagenet” by Peter Allen:

1) "French city of Angers in Loire Valley provided some of the greatest monarchs in British history
2) "When Edward Plantagenet was murdered in Tower of London in 1499 house's legitimate male line came to an end
3) "City believes it is owed an apology – and 513 years' worth of compensation
4) "Sum would amount to billions in today's currency, but city is prepared to accept the coronation jewels”

The city of ANGERS, who is bringing the suit, is charming and appears prosperous, boasting a huge fortress like chateaux now under renovation. Obviously, they have hit upon a unique way to attract tourists, particularly their cousins from across the Channel.

We anxiously await the response from Her Majesty in her Jubilee Year…

And this day, July 17 in the year of our Lord 2012, I, Kate (with an anglo-saxon surname) demand recompense for the illegal invasion of these Isles and most importantly the town of my birth name on the south coast by William The Bastard in 1066. I'm not greedy though, I'm happy to accept rule of Provence in return.

Kate, touche, a declaration well phrased.

I thought the town of ANGERS most attractive and apparently prosperous. It is a frequent stopping point for those traveling through Chateaux Country and on to Chartes and Paris.

They sport a good sized Tourist Office. Some entrepreneurial genius must have devised this attention getting hoax …

We could send a jar of Marmite.

And some tennis balls.

Thanks Jamikins...still don't know what it tastes like, though. Probably tastes like Marmite!! It always sounds like potting soil to me!

Tres amusant.

I look forward to the issue of the writ.

I think that their cause of action is somewhat weak, and expect the action to be struck out, with costs.

surely we should take back Aquitaine in recompense?

I've been to Angers several times. Wonderful town, great château, and very good Jean Lurçat museum.

I read that there's a bit of a cycle race going on.

plus M'sieur Hollande having to tell his mistress to cool it.

St. Cirq, sorry that I missed the Lurcat Museum. To me the town looked quite prosperous. We were told that many commute to Paris from there daily.

Annhig, I am still trying to keep up my French “reading” by checking Le Figaro and Le Monde regularly. Get a kick out of the Hollande romantic entanglement. He beats Sarko in that department, eh?
