French ATC Strike 26June

I came across this info on rec.travel.europe and this is from Ryanair's website www.ryanair.com/ Sorry for the possible bad news to some:-(
FRENCH AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS STRIKE

June 23rd, 2000
We are advised that there will be a strike by French Air traffic controllers on Monday 26th June. This action, if it takes place, may have a serious impact on flight schedules to/from France on Monday. It would be prudent for passengers to make alternative travel arrangements should you intend travelling on Monday 26th. Passengers wishing to change their travel plans or make alternative arrangements should contact Ryanair
Okay.. I'm interested in updates on this as 4 of our students are flying on Monday to Budapest on Air France via Paris. Just when you think you have things under control..... AAAAAAEeeeeeeiieeeee....

The Air France site has a means of checking on cancelled flights. Their page is at http://www.airfrance.fr/
Click on: "Perturbations du 23 au 26 juin : cliquez ici pour en savoir plus." Then click on "consulter les horaires de nos vols". The request form should be fairly comprehensible even if you don't speak French. The currently canceled flights are noted in red boxes [well pinkish red] and the words to look for are "Vol(s) AF... annulé(s). Nous vous prions de bien vouloir nous excuser."

So far the flight that turns around to become our students' flight is canceled, but not their flight. [Don't worry. The morning activity involves the travel agent:)]

Walter, you are an angel..we were leaving tomorrow for Paris/Nice and saw your message, so have been running around all day and managed to find alternative ways to Nice, through Milan, and the airline even accepted the previous frequent flyer ticket without penalty. We could never never have had time to do all the changes necessary were it not for your message here. Thanks!!!!!!

Hey Fodor's!

I relied heavily on this site for info regarding the recent armored truck drivers' strike, and here's another instance of valuable information being passed on. Perhaps you would consider the public service of creating a "department" specifically for warnings, updates, etc. This is a well-informed bunch of people, and therefore a great source of up-to-date intelligence.

Thanks...

There is an English version of the AF site: http://www.airfrance.com/

It looks as though our students are going to "thread the needle" and make it rhough okay.

Does this mean a one day strike or an on-going strike? We're due to fly from US to Paris on Saturday. Will this affect us?

judy Jun 24th, 2000 05:42 PM

We're going to Paris Saturday, July 1 also. Do we start worrying now or what
Please advise

So far, it is only a one-day strike. But with French strikes you never know. Keep following the news.
