French air traffic control strike early July
 

Did anyone hear about this? French ATC wants to strike next week.

Does an announcement of a strike usually end up in things getting sorted out in time, or do the strikes usually end up happening?

July 2-3. That stinks, I'm scheduled to arrive on the 2nd.

That doesn't say they're *definitely* on strike. I would stick to airline's websites for information - they know more than random new sites.

Ummmm. This is not just on a "new" site. It is pretty generally in the French news.

Yes, stay in touch with your airline, but I would not discount this as a mere threat.

What is your Plan B?

I am also scheduled to fly into France on July 2, via London. If I get delayed, as I understand it, the airlines need to put me up in a hotel, give me meal vouchers and transportation from the airport. If I can, I will take advantage of the situation and do some quick sight seeing!

This is the last I've read. Today and tomorrow's strike was cancelled but Thurs and Fri are on.

I've heard from a few sources that international flights probably won't get cancelled and the ones which get hit are the domestic ones.

Ummm, I wouldn't get my hopes up for getting put up in London, lbake.

I have spent a lot of time over the years as a "guest" of airlines, and they usually give you a voucher for a crew hotel, almost always at or near the airport. Similarly, your food voucher is likely to cover very modest meals in very modest places, usually at the hotel. The transportation is the hotel van or the van that takes the crew.

Sometimes the crew hotel is very nice; sometimes it is like a Holiday
Inn Express. You may also be (are very likely to be) booked out very early the next morning or very late the next night, not on your original flight a day later.

I have had a couple of much better deals, but they are rare indeed.

Update on June 28, 12:30 (Paris local time)

The first call for strike action issued by four French air controllers' unions from June 30 to July 01 has been suspended.

For the moment, the two others trade unions maintain their call for strike from July 02 to July 03.

Currently, negotiations are still going on between the involved parties. If this industrial action is confirmed, French Civil Aviation Authorities will give instructions to all airlines.

Accordingly to these instructions, we will adjust our flight schedule.

We will inform you soon and make our utmost to assist you to minimize the impact of this industrial action on your travel plans.

The strike was called off. Yay!
