free wireless internet?
Will we be able to find free wireless internet in Athens, Crete and Rhodes? Would it be available in some cafe's etc? Would appreciate advice as we are wondering whether to bring our laptop.

Hi Linda!
My SO is a wireless guy, can't stand to be away from the Mets for any extended period of time- I feel your pain.
Unfortunately, I've never been to Greece, but I would recommend you re-post with the names of your destinations in the title.
Good luck!

There may be a computer or two available at your hotels, and there may not be. You'll need to ask. Some are free and some charge a nominal fee of around 5eu per 30 minutes. If available in the hotel, it's possible they will be constantly in use by US tourists with separation anxiety. It wont be like the US where there are coffee shops everywhere with WiFi.

WIFI is becoming more and more prevalent in the islands, at hotels land internet cafes. Buy him a small, hand-held WIFI signal locator for under $30 and he'll be able to locate an existing WIFI system "hotspot" whenever he's in range to pick the signal up. The good ones also differentiate between false signals, microwaves and portable phones.

you can find free internet access at syntagma square and piraeus port. Moreover, there are many hotels in Athens that have wi-fi access for their visitors. Alternatively, you can get access at internet cafes (there are everywhere in Athens) at a cost of 1-2 euros/hour.

Hi, we were in Athens last year at the Electra Palace Hotel, they offer WIFI service at a hefty price. 15EU for 24 hrs. and 7EU for 5 hrs. When we were in Heraklion Crete, we stayed at Kastro hotel and they provided free internet access in our rooms but u have to have an ethernet cable for hookup. We also went to Patras during the Carnival. We stayed at the Achaia Beach Hotel and they have a computer room in the lobby. No internet from our room. There's a lot of internet cafe all over the place.... Hope that helps.
