Free public transportation on 14-15-16 March in Paris & Wallonia

Due to the current pollution crisis, all public transportation is free in the Paris metropolitan area on Friday-Saturday-Sunday and maybe more. This includes the airport routes, Versailles, Fontainebleau and anywhere else in zones 1 to 5.

Bus and train transportation is also free starting 14 March in all of French speaking Belgium "until further notice."

Oh, I forgot to mention that Brussels has not yet decreed free transportation even though it is likely to do so (but Brussels is not in Wallonia anyway).

In Wallonia, one is supposed to request a (free) ticket before using transportation.

Who said there 'was no free ride'?

Merci pour posting! Will tell my French in-laws in Orleans to go to Paris that weekend!

Caen, Rouen, Reims and Grenoble have also made all public transportation free through the weekend.

Yes, I saw this on the French television news on the Internet.

It is certainly one of those good news-bad news announcements: ride free but don't come if you have asthma or other respiratory ailments.

Sleet in May last year, temperature inversions just like LA this year. So much for asking " what will the weather be in Paris?"

Today's weather report says most of the large cities in France have air that is 'irrespirable' - unbreathable.

The picture of a smogged in Eifel Tower - reminds me of how bad Paris air can be and how anyone with breathing problems should be cognizant that on some days it can be downright health threatening.

Cars are to be restricted from tomorrow. Odd numbered cars must not be used tomorrow, even ones on Tuesday.

Today has been quite breezy and clear. The problem might clear up faster than expected.
