It's an announcement for the coming year of an association of museums across Europe. You can sign up to receive additional information for the 2013 season. You can follow them on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/nuitdesmusees).

That's been going on in various countries for some years now. It isn't all day, it's only at night (I think from 6 pm onward), so there are special night openings until 1 am. I'll have to check further, I didn't see an exact list, but it did include the Orsay, Grand Palais and Branly and Pompidou. It also mentions various special events going on in the museum that night also.

okay, it appears they don't have a program yet, in fact part of that announcement is that places that want to sign up to be on the program can. However, this is the program from last year http://www.evous.fr/La-Nuit-des-Muse...s,1128787.html

Even if you can't read French, you can probabably figure out the museums and the times they will be open, some are only free after 7 pm (like Rodin and Branly), I think the Orsay at 6:30. YOu can probably figure it out, it is most of the major museums, although some are free all the time anyway (like Carnavalet).

The european "night of the museum" was created in 2005 in order to attract a younger crowd. Museum stays open until about one am and most of them are free. That is throughout Europe.
As the Ministry for culture is involved this means that the national museum such as le louvre will be free....
Here's a link showing you the museum participating in 2012

We went to a couple of museums 'at night', there was a heap of buzz, great vibes to the city. Make sure you plan to go to a couple, we picked one we weren't 'sure of' and were glad we hadn't paid!!!
