Free museum tickets in Florence - week of May 17

I understand that the museums in Florence may be free during the week of May 17.

Does anybody have any information regarding this, and if it is true, which,if any, of the following would be affected:
ufizzi
accademia
medici chapel
barghello
pitti palace?

The seventh "Settimana della Cultura" is taking place from 16 to 22 May 2005. During this time, in national museums that are administered by the Ministero per i Beni e le Attivita Culturale there is free admission. Whether the museums administered by the City of Florence decide to tag along is a question I cannot answer.

Among the national museums in Florence are:

Laurentian Library
Archeological Museum
Uffizi
Bargello
Museo di San Marco
Medici Chapels
Accademia
Galleria Palatina (Palazzo Pitti)

The complete list (in Italian) is at

http://www.beniculturali.it

I would still try to make reservations (if they are accepted) for the Uffizi and the Accademia; I suspect that the lines will be endless.

I am also very interested in free tickets for Florence museums as I will be in Italy that week. The website however did not work. Any other ideas on getting more info?

I did say that the Web site is in Italian.

The "Settimana della Cultura" takes place throughout Italy.

When you arrive at the Ministero site, click on "Luoghi della Cultura" on the left. A map of Italy will come up; click on the region, i.e., Toscana or Lazio, then on the province, i.e., Firenze or Roma. All the cultural institutions administered by the state in that province will come up in alphabetical order of the towns/cities in which they are located.

I'm afraid I can't help you beyond that.

Thanks Eloise! I found it now. I think I had punched in the wrong spelling of the website.
