Free city/subway maps

Hi,

Can I get free city and subway maps in airports of London, Paris and Rome? Otherwise I have to buy them in US.

Thanks!

I haven't seen them at airports, but that doesn't mean there aren't any. However, virtually all hotels have free maps.

Usually the currency exchange desks have them, or a hotel, as someone else said. It's good to get one ahead of time & memorize some routes, though. Buy a laminated one. It will last longer.

I would think you'd want to have the city maps before leaving to assist you in planning your itineraries.
As for subway maps, in Paris, you can get a free one at any metro station. Some tour books include include subway maps for the major cities.

You most likely can get free city maps at the tourist info center in each city. You can get a free tube map at any London tube/train stations.

However, these city maps are usually "simplified", ie they don't list smaller streets.

Assuming you will have some kind of guidebooks for each city, they usually have maps for the city & subway system as well.

You can also find some decent ones online. Just do a Google search. The entire Paris RATP system, for example, can be printed out.

We picked up a Tube map while waiting for our bags to appear at T3 in Heathrow. We contacted our local UK tourism office (Toronto) and they mailed, free of charge, a map of central London. That freebee has served for four visits to London. One of these days I should buy a "proper" map but the old one does the job.

Yes you can get a free subway map at any subway station in London - this is not simplified.
You can also get a bus map at a subway station. Mine was given by the assistance counter guy. I bought a couple before that. None of the 3 maps is perfectly detailed. (Also at some subway station, you can get free area map right under the big display of area map.) I just spent a whole week in London. Everyday I wished to have a chance to get a detailed map. Well the priority was not high. And I made it perfectly fine with the combination of my 3 maps.
BTW, fordor's book has a map attached.
