Free Android Application for Texting

Does anyone know of a free international Android application for texting? I currently use HeyWire, which allows me to text for free if there is wi-fi. But I'm going to Europe, and Heywire only works in Europe if the recipient uses Heywire too. I've heard of Heytell working globally, but the microphone on my phone is kaputt, and Heytell is, if i'm not mistaken, only is for voice.

To who it may concern, I'll be in South Germany, North France, and for a day or so, in Switzerland.

My daughter is in Rome right now and we are using the Talkatone app. Honestly, I'm not quite sure how it works but it works great. We had to set up a Google Voice account and then download the app. I can text her regular number and I think Talkatone forwards it to her Google Voice number. More importantly, she texts me using Talkatone over wifi and there are no charges at all. It comes to my regular number since Google Voice forwards it seamlessly. Talkatone FAQs say that it works in the US and Canada and might work in Europe so we were uncertain about it, but it works really well. By the way, we have iPhones but it works on Android too.

Forgot to mention that text messages to her from anyone are forwarded to Google Voice and then to Talkatone so both parties don't have to have the app.

TextHer needs the app installed on any phone that texts will go between so it works like the app that the OP already has.
