Hi CAPH, the only reason I had that thought is that I have never had a problem. I take more than one CC with me but I always use the same CC for purchases that I use for my airline tickets (but of course I call all of my CC Co's before a trip). But just got thinking that because once one buys the airline ticket it goes through the CC system that perhaps that "tells" that same CC Co that one's purchases in the area they flew to are not fraud charges. I really don't know..just a thought.

CAPH, I did a few study and internships abroad. If she's over there a while, it may be a good idea to have her open a bank account with a local financial institution. I opened with UBS and they offer credit cards. The bank accounts should be free as long as she's a student. That way, you can just wire her the money she needs. Overseas internships and experiences are great for job opportunities. Looks great on the resume and it is pretty much automatic as a conversation starter in an interview. Well, anyways, those are just my suggestions. I hope all is well with her.

Thanks, waverunner. The plan is for her to open an account. In fact, before she left she made a point of opening an account here that would allow her to wire herself money online. But she hasn't gotten around to it yet. I'll feel much better once she does. But, between having to find a place to live and starting the internship right away, she's had a lot to deal with. And now she's in Brussels visiting a friend!

I think, or at least certainly hope, that you're right about the internship. In her case, this actually counts as a semester of school (she goes to an alternative education college). But I still think it will be very helpful with both jobs and, should she go that route, grad schools. All of that aside, there's no question that, just in terms of getting everything set up, it's been a real character building experience!;)

Jody, I had an opposite experience! Paying for a tour, I gave the tour company my CC number. They called me back to inform the number is not working.

Thinking the charge was denied, I called the CC company, but there was no note of denying anything. "we wouldn't deny such a small charge" the woman said.

Is $1,300 small???? I didn't ask her.

Probably the tour company mistyped the number. From the 2nd try, everything worked.
