Frascati and/or Castel Gandolfo from Rome?

I may want to take some day trips on the train or a bus from Rome in the Fall. These places sound so interesting, do any of you have any knowledge of interest in these towns?

I can't find a train route but I am still looking! I think Cotral buses go also but finding info is not easy.

Thanks!

SeaUrchin, the Castelli Romani, which include Frascati is your best choice.

When I was a teenager I used to go to Frascati by train.I remember that the train station was at the bottom of Via Giolitti.
Here is a very good web site about The Castelli Romani and also include the train schedule.
Have fun..

Hi Sea Urchin - Personally I think Castel Gandolfo is much nicer than Frascati.

It's an easy train ride from Roma Termini - about 45 mins.

The station is below the town, 5-10 mins walk - take the short-cut up the steps. It's also 10 mins walk from beautiful Lake Albano.

With town and lake you could easily spend a leisurely day there. I often do - but then my cousin lives there :)

We just spent a bright and sunny Sunday at Castle Gandolfo. The town is charming, the lake below is quite beautiful. From there we went to Tivoli to Villa D este and enjoyed the gardens. A late lunch at La Sibilla rounded out a great getaway on a very hot and busy July Sunday in Roma !

thanks all. Now I really want to do this.

How nice to have a cousin there! I would be an often visitor.

Does the train leave from the main train station in Rome?

Yes - it's the Albano train from Roma Termini.

Enjoy your trip :)

Steve, I am really a train challenged individual. Something happens when I enter a train station and everything goes wrong. So a question please, I look for the train with the end destination of Albano? And the origination of Albano on the return to termini? I am starting to hyperventilate just thinking about figuring this out and getting the correct trains.

Oh SeaUrchin I am laughing so much at you being a train challenged individual. Sorry I know it's not funny.... I'm challenged too :-)

My train mishaps are mostly funny in retrospect! LOL

Yes SeaU - final destination is listed as Albano (- or Albano Laziale).

On Trenitalia it's listed as Albano Laziale.

P.S Don't miss the Castel Gandolfo stop - like I did once :(
It's easily missed ...
