Frankfurt to Ruedesheim
 

Hello, I have to travel by train form Frankfurt airport to Ruedesheim. My flight reaches at 17.35 (terminal 1)and considering I have never been in Frankfurt airport I need some help how to reach the airport train station,which one to go to, to the local one or to the long distance one?How many minutes to reach the airport train station from the luggage claim (I have a connection to Ruedesheim at 18.29 )and where to buy the train ticket for Ruedesheim?Is there a cashier?

If you are flying in internationally and will need to go through customs, you do not have enough time.
You can check the train schedule at www.bahn.de and click on english.
The subway/train staion is DOWNSTAIRS in the airport and you will want the local or Regionalabahn (NOT long-distance or Fernbahn).
Departures from the airport (Flughafen) leave at 18:14/18:44/19:44/20:44 for Ruedesheim with one change in Mainz (I didn' check later times).
There are a few other trains with TWO changes required as well-departs 19:59- (Mainz nad Bingen).
There are ticket windows and self -serve ticket machines where a credit card can be used.

While FRA is not the most convenient airport to navigate, it's fairly simple and not much of a walk to get from baggage claims at Terminal 1 to the regional train station. Just follow signs with train icon saying regional trains (in English).
I would not be too sceptical that there was no way to make it in one hour from the plane via passport control and baggage claim to the train station. Where will you be coming from (just curious as that late usually no planes from the US arrive)? And if you were coming from the UK or Ireland you could use the EU lanes which usually move faster at passport control.

I think you can make the 18:44 train too. You have an hour and 15 min. which should be sufficient.(where have you seen a train at 18:29?) Do you have to get your luggage or are you doing carry-on only.

It usually only takes about 30 min. or so to emerge into the airport after landing. Just go straight downstairs to the Regional Train station which is located under Arrival Hall B-1. Go to track #3 and get on your train. This will be the S-9. These are Regional trains, so you don't need a specific train ticket or one that is purchased ahead of time.

The ticket machines at the airport are very user friendly with touch screens and English instuctions. It helps to have small bills with you for the ticket machine though. You will need to change trains in Mainz, but your next train is on the same track. You will only have to wait 11 min. in Mainz for this train. There are no reserved seats so you don't need to worry about that either.

If you should miss the train at 18:44, then catch the next one then at 19:44 as mokka suggested.

I am coming from Europe, east Europe that is.Mainhattengirl I am not sure which site I was checking for trains but I think I did not select the proper train station that is why I got the 18.29 result. But after checking on bahn.de I saw the correct train is at 18.44. I will have to get my luggage at the baggage claim ,hope it will be fast. I am happy to hear there is a chance to get to the train in time. And the best part is that I will not have to change platforms in Mainz as the transfer time is only 11 min.

Check the rail connections carefully for where you will have to change trains.
From what I see now on bahn.de, it says that you will connect at "Mainz-Kastel" station, which is one railway station within the city of Mainz but not Mainz central station.
It could be a good idea to expand the rail itineraries by all stations the trains call at. So you always know where you are.

Mainz-Kastel is a part of Mainz (along with Mainz-Kostheim) that's on the northern side of the river (i.e. next to Wiesbaden), and actually not near the rest of Mainz, which is on the southern side of the river. Just so you know...
