Frankfurt/Sachsenhausen Apfel Wein bars

Has anyone been to the Sachsenhausen area of Frankfurt recently? We visited the apfel wein bars many years ago and are considering going back for an evening, but Iíve been told the area is now overrun with discos and has lost its traditional feel. Any comments?

It was a there a few years ago that I was last there, but it didn't seem to much different to me than the first time I visited.

My favorite tavern is the Zum Wagner. I eat there every time I'm in Frankfurt. I like the boiled beef in green sauce, but look at the daily specials.

Enjoy your trip.

Lots of non-traditional bars and restaurants in the area, but not discos. the Appelwoi bars are the same as always.

My husband has been there a few times, including in August, and says he doesn't even remember seeing a disco. He enjoys getting out of the Frankfurt traffic, walking on the cobblestone streets among the half-timbered houses--and the apfel wein too! Says Zum Wagner is good--thinks he had good pork shoulder there, too. Patio dining is nice. And don't forget to look for bembels--there's a cute little shop there (those are those traditional grey with blue designs wein holders indigenous to this area).

An update: while in Frankfurt we had dinner at "Atschel" in Sachsenhausen. We were pleased!

Thanks again to all who answered my original question.

We were at Adolph Wagner in the beginning of September. Great place and the whole area looked nice. Didn't notice any discos. Think we were the only tourists in the restaurant which was filled with young college type kids.

Hope you like the apfel wein. We had some but left most in the glass

Some very traditional Ebbelwoi pubs can be found around Affenplatz, a bit east of Sachsenhausen centre.
