Hi jiker,

Munich! Not only for the city, but for the countryside and alpine areas. Berchtesgaden area, Salzburg, Mittenwald, Fuessen, Oberammaergau, Herrenchiemsee, etc.

From each city you can do great excursions, so look at those for the deciding factor:

From Frankfurt, up to Heidelberg, or down-river to Mainz and then to the famous stretch along the Rhine, or to Bad Homburg, a drive through the region of the Taunus, to the wine country - four days will go like that.

From Munich into the alps for the castles, lakes, Zugspitze, or to Ulm and Nürnberg and many other destinations - also too much for just four days.

So toss a coin and go and enjoy.

Munich, 100%! And at that time of year, do the Mike's Bike tour around the city. I can't stop thinking about the bier garten in the Englischgarten. I'm sure it's a little balmy now, but it would be so beautiful (and fun) in June. www.mikesbiketours.com

Munich. A top-of-the-line, blue chip city.

Whats the next question?

Marseilles or Paris,
Detroit or New York.

Unbelievable.

I'm with Dalai on this one.

It very much depends on what part of the country you want to see and what you like to do. Each city and each area has its attractions.

I suggest you do a little research and see which area suits you best.

You'll have fun whatever your choice.

I'll also join Dalai on this one.

If you were just talking about the cities themselves, I'd definitely vote for Munich. But since you want to explore surrounding areas, both have some very nice but different places to explore nearby.

Gee thanks for comparing a wonderful, historic city like Frankfurt to Detroit. Granted, Munich may have more to offer, but sheesh, Detroit???

One more vote for Munich. Lots to do in the city, museums, beer halls, parks, markets, history. Lots to do close by Neuschwanstein, Dachau, Salzburg.

Mainhattengirl - I was wondering when you were going to chime in on that one!!

Hi Jiker,

as all the others already recommended, you should go for Munich! It's a great starting point for discovering amazing nature as well as smaller cosy towns.

I've just found a site with highlights of munich (see the picture slideshow at the right side). At the bottom of page are tips for day trips...
