If this is your first time out of the u.s., and if you are travelling alone, and if you don't read German (road signs), take the train -- it will be less expensive for one person, and less stressful for you to navigate.

The ticket-sellers will speak enough English to help you, and you can just sit back and watch the countryside.

Train, definitely. There are direct trains every two hours between 7:00am and 5:00pm directly from Frankfurt Main Station to Amsterdam Centraal Station, which take 3:55 hours. It would take you longer to drive, and it wouldn't be nearly as pleasant, and you don't need a car in Amsterdam.

You can get schedules on www.raileurope.com and then click on "Fares and Schedules"

Have you looked in to the cost of flying to Amsterdam?

io6eebee6 Feb 25th, 2005 12:47 PM

LOL madman !

Everyone on this message board KNOWS where Frankfurt is !! you don't have to say Frankfurt, Germany like you do in your Abbeville, Oklahoma or waterville, Texas. When you talk about major European cities, everyone here knows where they are.
I just read another poster asking: how can I get from Rome, Italy to Paris, France !

How rediculous !!!

io6eebee6 Feb 25th, 2005 12:52 PM

And you are going to Amsterdam on your very first European trip? you must be going there ONLY for the prostitutes and drugs. What a dirty pig!

I would go to Rome, London, or Paris on my first European trip. Not that there is anything wrong with Amsterdam, but someone who's never been to Europe, and just wants to go straight to Amsterdam? I KNOW why you're going there !

io6whatever.....you need anger management. Who cares how they say it, it's the point of the question that's important.

jeffwill4you Feb 25th, 2005 02:11 PM

Hey madmanholt don't listen to that io6eebee6 person he/she's what they call here at fodors a TROLL! Amsterdam is a great city to visit and not just prostitutes and drugs unless thats what you're looking for? I looked at flights from FRA to AMS and you can go for about $233.00 RT 1 hour and 10 mins each way. Have A great time.

madmanholt, yes go to Amsterdam by train. Be careful of pickpockets in the Amsterdam tain station and on the trams, and basically everywhere in the city.

There are some posts from io6eebee6 on your thread. This is the first time that io6eebee6 has ever posted on the Fodor's forum. There is obviously something out of whack with io6eebee6. I expect that Fodors will knock out io6eebee6's posts or knock out your whole thread pretty quick. I suggest that you use the search box above and enter Amsterdam to find plenty of first hand information about Amsterdam. If you need to buy drugs and/or sex (as implied by io6eebee6)that is available, but the city has so much more to offer that you could spend a month there and never get bored.

I may take the train to paris first then to amsterdam.
