Frankfurt connection from MAD to US
 

I'm considering a connection from Madrid to FRA on Lufthansa to USAirways FRA to Philadelphia with 1 hour and 10 minutes between the flights. I've never had a connection in FRA when departing the Europe so I'm not sure how much time I will need. Does anyone have an idea how likely it is that I might make this connection?

Hi! well, it does look tight. i actually have a 1 hour 10 min connect time in FRA on US from the States to Prague end of Sept. I know that US has many delayed flights so i'm taking my chances... but .. well... i'm just going for it. (sorry, not much encouragement here)

callalilli - I have done a connection from the US through FRA and it was really easy. I suspect connections might be easier from transatlantic to intra-Europe than the reverse which is why I was checking. I would take an hour connection in that direction. At FRA they won't let you into the boarding area for your flight until a few minutes before they start the boarding so it would be easier without the milling about in what feels like the middle of the night waiting for the gate to be posted.

I think you're cutting it a little too tight. We've connected through FRA (and MUC) several times in the last 3 years and, while we had one connection in less time and made it, it was all LH. I'd prefer having 2 hrs.

Keep a couple of things in mind. 1) On flights to the States, you'll go through 3 security/immigration checks (but not customs). Although lines move pretty well, it still takes some time. 2) While FRA is pretty efficient, it's an older, big, spread out airport. At times the walk can be rather long.

Haven't been on US through FRA so that may make a difference, but hopes this gives you some helpful info.

detraveker - sorry, reread your post and sounds like you're familiar with FRA. Still think it might be a little close.

Thanks for the advice. You confirmed what I was not sure about that I will have to do the security/immigration checks even though I'm not starting in FRA. With that info I'm sure it is too tight. I've not done a connection anywhere in Europe on the return to the US so I was not sure. Thanks again!
