Frankfurt: Cafes, Bars, Pizza
 

I will have a day and a half to visit Frankfurt and possibly jump out to Mainz.

In Frankfurt, can someone suggest:
1. Good bars to go to. For me, a bar is not a club, does not have a cover charge, and isn't necessarily scenic. It's just a place where people go to have a beer or maybe a cocktail. Are there beer halls in Frankfurt?

2. Good cafes. I'd be looking for scenery here. Something in a square or along a park.

3. A pizza joint. I'm a pizza junky and what I know of German food doesn't do it for me.

If I had to spend a day and a half in Frankfurt, I wouldn't.
The train system in Frankfurt will take you to some nice places quickly.
There is a park that runs along the river and there's an art museum that is nice. Is there a reason you need to stay in Frankfurt?
Bad Homberg is a 20 minute train ride. It has a beautiful park and a great bath.

No reason I need to stay in Frankfurt at all. It is jus that I leave this Friday evening and don't have a ton of time to plan this trip. Frankfurt and Mainz sure sound easy enough...elsewhere sounds like it would take more planning at this point. Also, Frankfurt has hotels where I can use points for free nights' lodging.

Have a great trip. If there's no pizza in Mainz, try Wiesbaden. It's a nice little cosmopolitan city, a short distance from Mainz.
Enjoy the beer.

1.) Sachsenhausen is a good place for bars. A place I can recommend is the "Keepers Lounge", where you also get good food. But there are many other nice places in the area.

If you want it traditional, you'll find a lot of Aeppelwoi places which sell the traditional Frankfurt speciality of apple wine and very German food. They don't necessarily sell beer and certainly no cocktails.

If you want a real cocktail bar, there are some places in the city centre. You could try the Sansibar in the Japancenter if you want it stylish.

2.) Cafe: It's too cold to sit outside, so I'd recommend some place on one of the skyscrapers.

3.) Pizza joint: there are dozens of Italian restaurants in Frankfurt and all have pizza. Ask in the hotel for a recommmendation for a convenient one close to the place you stay.
