Frankfurt alternative
I'm flying out of Frankfurt Airport at the end of my holiday in June--I had planned on spending my last three nights in Frankfurt, however I'm surprised to see how pricey hotels are ($150+ per night).
I'd appreciate suggestions for alternative cities where prices may be a little lower. I'd like to be within a 1hr train ride of Frankfurt Airport. Any suggestions?

Mainz is connected with the airport on a direct and frequent commuter train line (S-Bahn), the ride takes about 25 minutes. Into Frankfurt centre, should you want to go for a day trip, you'll need about 40 minutes. But Mainz itself has quite a lot to offer, and the Middle Rhine Gorge with its castles is an easy day trip. So Mainz is indeed a good alternative.
There are several big trade fairs going on in Frankfurt in the second half of June and you are probably hitting one of those dates, hence the inflated hotel prices.

If you are having problems finding rooms at a decent price, contact www.frankfurt.de and they can help you find affordable rooms.
When a trade fair is on, all the surrounding towns get expensive too.
Check Eltville, Marburg, or Idstein perhaps.

Checked the Bingen NH hotel. €250 for 3 nights. It's on the riverfront at the beginning of the most scenic part of the Rhine. Do cruises and day trips by train to other nearby Rhine villages (Bacharach, Oberwesel, St. Goar) and visit a castle or two, or day trip to Mainz (30 min.)
Bingen is 50 minutes from FRA by direct train.
