Great to hear you're back, franco!

I leave 4 weeks from today for Rome. Any great places to eat that you haven't already mentioned? I'm always looking for new suggestions!

Thank you all for the nice welcome!

Sorry, Susan, I've already given away all my secrets on Rome's restaurants here.

Hello from a first time visitor to Fodors! I especially enjoyed your posts because you seemed very knowledgeable about many different things. I've bookmarked many of your posts but I have a specific question regarding restaurant reservations. We are staying at the Westin Excelsior with a 6yr old child in late April and I was wondering if we had to make reservations at dinnertime (we haven't picked any places yet), I don't want to wander around town with my child being turned away from full restaurants. We're americans so we probably eat earlier than the Romans if that helps. Thanks for your attention and great posts!

hppygirl, making reservations always makes sense in Rome, with a child or without... Certainly, if you eat earlier than usual, then it may not be necessary, but then, it doesn't hurt to book anyway, does it? It's not that you need to reserve weeks ahead; if you want to have a look at the menu first, it's usually perfectly sufficient if you book the same day, or the day before. But if you take my advice: DON'T eat earlier than the Romans. Change your habits for those few days you'll be spending in Rome. It's simply more fun to eat in a restaurant that's not empty. And service is usually better if the waiters are NOT rolling their eyes about those strange people who have dinner shortly after Romans had lunch (which they inevitably do if you dine before 8.30).

annhig- thanks! I did already have this on my list, though, to review in early April, before we head out to Rome in late April.

And grazie mille to you, Franco!!!

PS FRANCO- since this original post is 4 years old... can you tell us if all of the favorites you mention are still owned/operated by said favorites? Still there and still serving fantastic food? thanks!

sarge, I'm afraid you will have to read the whole long thread... the last updates are from October 2007, so just two and a half years old. And since October 2007, I haven't simply been in Rome, so it will have to be you and Ann to update us, and I'm looking forward to what you're going to report. (OMG - two and a half years without traveling to Rome! I knew something was wrong with my life!)
In general, change in Italian restaurants is to be measured in decades rather than years. In merely two and a half years, they don't even typically change one entry on their menu, so no need to worry much. I'm more than curious, though, to learn whether Ada is still operating her business - which would be on the edge of prodigy.
