France opens to those from North America – there are restrictions
 

France has finally announced who from North America may enter starting June 9th. This also applied to those From North American staying outside the EU within 14 days of arrival.

• Vaccinated individuals (verification yet to be determined) with a PCR test given within 72 hours of flight or an antigen test within 48 hours.

• Unvaccinated individuals with:

Everyone must carry these completed documents:

1. Mobility rules

2. Health control measures

They really don't want you just yet. Why not oblige?

The French government only makes the English language links available in the .docx format. If you are having difficulty with the links, you might need Word or similar software, i.e. LibreOffice, Open Office. These are typically available on Windows or Linux.

There are .pdf and .txt links available in the French version for those who may be using Apple products.

Hi Sarastro......since you are aware of my proficiency with computers, you must know how I read your last note...but, thank you anyway!

The mobility rules seem to rule out tourism travel. It is not even clear that an American who owns a house in France but has no other connection to France would be allowed in.

Yeah unvaccinated people from Orange list countries, which include the US and UK, may not travel for nonessential reasons. They can enter for "motifs imperiaux" and the link has a list of those things.

I believe you are required to present a PCR or Antigen test but there is an additional test required on arrival? But it's aleatoire or random?

MIchael is correct, NO WHERE on those documents does it say Americans can go to France just for tourism. In fact, the rules don't seem that different from what they were before, but I might be forgetting (married to someone, some essential travel, health professional, etc).

Now I have been thinking of taking some language classes in Paris again, I'll have to look into that one. I have before at a couple universities and enjoyed them. Although it depends what things are like when I want to go later this year, right now wouldn't be any fun anyway. I didn't realize they still have a curfew there, although that's supposed to change soon.

The French Foreign Ministry apparently does not keep up with the rules relative to individuals coming from orange countries; i.e. only essential travel is allowed, no leisure travel is mentioned as allowed.

Thev7 day isolation - do you have to quarantine 7 days if you haven't been vaccinated?

I have just arrived back from a trip and am trying to digest the new rules. It appears that visitors to France whose date of arrival is more than 14 days after their second vaccination do not need a compelling reason to visit France, do not need to self isolate on arrival and only need an antigen test not PCR to enter France. Big impact for me, as I can now travel next week. Clearly anyone need to check this for their own comfort.

Now the question is, what types of antigenic tests are acceptable?

How about those home rapid tests?

Or ar there specific testing labs we have to use? For instance, the state of Hawaii only accepts test results from a specific set of "partners" for the purpose of going to Hawaii. There's a story of two young women who flew from North Carolina with negative test results and they were sent back to LAX to get tested there from one of their partners.

I"m still confused as that WaPo article doesn't clarify anything. The headline says Americans are allowed in for tourism if vaccinated but then later down the article, it says there are tougher requirements for Americans, so that is still vague. I've seen similar headlines in other media outlets.

If you look at the chart on Lemoyne's Tweet, it is cryptic. I must be a dunce that I"m not sure what it means or those little symbols. I think if these headlines are true, that null symbol means that criterion does NOT apply to that line? So then it would mean if you are coming from an orange country, you only have to be vaccinated or have a neg PCR test. Michasel, are you interpeting it differently? I'm sorry I don't understand your comment about the foreign minister.
