France next June

we plan to fly into Paris next June, stay over two nights and drive to the Avignon region of France and stay a week. We are looking for a nice flat in Avignon, with a kitchen, in a villa with a great view. We hope to cycle, walk and drive and generally tour the area and maybe do a day long wine trip too. Anybody know of anywhere to stay that be really nice, great view with a balcony, close to market, etc would have bikes we could use. Any suggestions for two nights in Paris - needs to be unique and pretty.

For Provence, go to www.gite.com or go to the past entries on this forum. Use Fodor's general hotel listing or this forum for Paris also.

The Vaucluse Departement has a fantastic online site for house/apartment rental, with pictures and all, and it's much cheaper than the private agencies. I used it myself and it worked perfectly. I think the URL is either www.visitprovence.com or www.provenceguide.com, but I'm not quite sure. Otherwise do a search on yahoo.fr under "Office de Tourisme + Vaucluse." I can recommend the house I rented in Chateuneuf de Gadagne (10 km from Avignon), but they have lots of apartments within the walled city of Avignon too (though not practical with a car)

I would suggest not driving to Avignon--take the TGV and rent your car there. And a place like St.Remy might be more charming than Avignon.

Lin posted this question in 1997. Who know why topper topped it!

John: I am already a member of Yahoo, but I cannot access the group on Provence. Can you offer any suggestions? Thanks
